Why growers choose drip
Drip uses dramatically less water than open-field irrigation because nothing is lost to run-off or evaporation between the rows. Feeding is precise and repeatable, so every plant gets the same nutrition, and because the leaves stay dry you get far fewer fungal problems than with overhead watering.
